How to get more leads as a tradie.

Most tradies don't need more advertising first. They need to stop losing the customers already trying to reach them. These are the fixes, cheapest first.

Answer the calls you already get

A customer with a burst pipe rings the first plumber on the list. If you don't pick up, they can ring the second straight away, and a callback an hour later may be too late.

You can't answer on a roof or under a house, so make the missed call do some work. A text back within seconds keeps the customer talking to you instead of the next number. That is what missed-call rescue does.

Get on Google Maps

Search "electrician" plus your suburb and look at what comes up first: a map with three businesses on it. Those come from Google Business Profiles. A free profile with your services, service area, hours and photos is the cheapest lead source most tradies have. How to set one up.

Ask every customer for a review

Reviews are what a customer reads before they choose between the three businesses on the map. Ask every customer, the day the job is done, with a one-tap link. How to ask without breaking Google's rules.

Give each service its own page

Someone searching "switchboard upgrade Springfield" wants the page about switchboard upgrades, not a home page that lists twenty jobs. A page per main service, with the suburbs you cover named on it, is how Google matches the search to you. The full checklist.

Quote fast, then follow up once

A customer who asked three tradies for a quote is comparing them, and a quote that arrives days later starts behind. Send it the same day if you can.

If you hear nothing, follow up once, a few days later, with a short message asking if they have questions. Plenty of quotes go quiet because the customer got busy, not because they said no.

Make referrals easy

Happy customers send their neighbours, but only if they can find your number again. Leave a card, put your website on your invoice, and ask: "If you know anyone who needs this done, I'd appreciate the call."

A standard WebGecko site has room for a page per service across four to six pages, at $2,490. See what a website costs.

Questions before you start

What is the cheapest way for a tradie to get more leads?

Answer or text back every call you already get, and set up a free Google Business Profile. Both cost little or nothing and catch customers who are already looking for you.

Do I need to pay for ads to get more work?

Not to start. Ads can work, but they send people to your phone and your website, so fix missed calls and give each service a page first, or you pay for leads you then lose.

How quickly should I send a quote?

As soon as you can, ideally the same day. If you hear nothing, follow up once a few days later.
