Wilston, Brisbane

Coffee and a bakery that starts at five.

A small shop on Example Street doing filter and espresso, a case of pastry baked through the morning, and breakfast served every hour we are open.

Two hands cupping a warm grey ceramic coffee cup and saucer at a cafe table.
A bright tiled cafe counter with an espresso machine, coffee grinders and open timber shelving stocked with coffee bags and glassware, croissants and pastries under glass domes in the display case.

The case is filled in batches, not all at once, so it is worth asking what came out of the oven last.

Where we are

Example Street, Wilston

Ten minutes north of the city, on the flat stretch of the street. Free parking out front on a weekday, harder on a Saturday.

  • Order at the counter. Tell us the coffee, pick from the case or the breakfast card. Card and cash both fine.
  • Tables are first come, first served. We do not hold them, and we do not take bookings for a casual visit.
  • Dogs sit out front. The footpath tables are yours and theirs. Inside is a food room, so that part is the rules, not us.
  • Step-free from the footpath. Room between the tables for a pram, tight during the weekend rush.

Same hours every week. The kitchen and the bakery both run right through, so there is no gap in the middle of the morning where you can only get a coffee.

Questions

The ones we get asked at the counter

Do you take bookings?

No, tables are first come, first served. If you are a group of six or more, call 0400 000 000 the day before and we will do what we can to hold space.

Where do I park?

Free street parking on Example Street and the residential streets around it. Saturday and Sunday mornings are the tightest, so give yourself an extra five minutes.

Can I bring my dog?

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at the footpath tables out front. Queensland food safety rules keep dogs out of the dining room, so that part is not up to us.

Do you have gluten-free bread?

Yes, gluten-free bread is available on request for an extra $2, and the granola bowl is gluten-free as it comes. The kitchen is not a gluten-free room, so cross-contact with wheat is possible.

What time does the bakery sell out?

Baking starts around 5am and the case goes out in batches through the morning. Almond croissants and cinnamon scrolls usually go by early afternoon, sooner on a weekend.

Do you do vegan options?

The granola bowl can be made with a plant-based milk, and any coffee can take oat, almond or soy for an extra $0.80. Ask at the counter which bakery items are made without egg or dairy that day, because the list moves with the season.

Is breakfast really served all day?

Yes. The full breakfast card is available from the moment we open until the moment we close, including the big breakfast at 1pm on a Sunday.

What are your hours?

Tuesday to Friday 6am to 2pm, Saturday and Sunday 6:30am to 1pm, closed all day Monday. The same hours every week.

Can I get everything to take away?

Yes, coffee, bakery and the full breakfast card all go into a bag or a cup at the same price you pay to sit down.

Do you cater platters for a work morning tea?

We put together coffee, pastry and sandwich platters for small functions and workplace orders. Ring 0400 000 000 at least 48 hours ahead so the bakery can plan the extra work.

Is there wi-fi?

Yes, free wi-fi for customers. Ask at the counter for the current password.

Can I get a pram in?

There is step-free access from the footpath and enough room between the tables for a pram, though it gets tight during the weekend morning rush.
