Overview
GeoTag Photo ("the app") is a Windows desktop application developed by WebGecko. This privacy policy explains our data practices. The short version: there are none.
The app runs entirely on your computer. It does not connect to the internet during normal use, does not require an account or login, and does not send any information anywhere.
What we do not collect
- No personal information (name, email, address)
- No photos or image data โ all processing happens locally on your device
- No GPS or location data โ EXIF coordinates are read and written locally only
- No usage statistics or analytics
- No crash reports or telemetry
- No device identifiers beyond what is needed for license validation
- No cookies, trackers, or third-party SDKs
Your photos
All photo processing occurs entirely on your local machine. Your images are never uploaded, transmitted, or accessed by WebGecko or any third party. The app reads GPS coordinates from your photo's EXIF data and writes location text overlays โ all of this happens locally and privately on your device.
License activation
If you purchase a license, the following minimal data is involved in the activation process:
- A hardware-derived Machine ID is generated locally on your device โ it never leaves your computer except as part of a Stripe payment transaction
- Payment is processed by Stripe โ see Stripe's privacy policy for their data practices
- Your email address is used solely to deliver your license key
No license data is stored on our servers beyond what is necessary to deliver and validate your key. License keys are deleted from our systems once claimed.
Geocoding
When the app resolves GPS coordinates to place names, it uses the Nominatim reverse geocoding service (OpenStreetMap). Coordinates are queried to retrieve city and country names. Results are cached locally on your device. Please refer to the Nominatim usage policy for their data practices.
